Our standard
This policy follows the same two ideas named by our companion business site, Pedagogue Systems: contextual integrity and privacy by design.
Contextual integrity
Information should move only in ways appropriate to the context that produced it. Reading an Earthsong page should not quietly become an advertising profile, a mailing-list entry, or a sale to someone else.
Privacy by design
Privacy works best as the default. Earthsong limits collection before data exists, serves fonts and images from its own site, and does not add analytics or tracking tools simply because they are available.
This site
This is the operational privacy policy for earthsong.io. It covers the public pages, seasonal letters, downloadable calendar, and the links provided by this site. It does not cover Shangralachia, Pedagogue Systems, or any other site reached through an external link; their own policies apply once you leave Earthsong.
What Earthsong collects
Earthsong itself collects no information that you type into the site. There are no accounts, comments, purchases, surveys, active newsletter forms, or contact forms. We do not use analytics, advertising pixels, session replay, fingerprinting, or social-media trackers.
What the hosting infrastructure processes
Earthsong is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel must process a request when your browser asks for a page or file. That request may include an IP address, browser and device information, the requested address, and a date and time. This information is used to deliver and protect the site. Earthsong does not combine it into visitor profiles or use it to measure individual behavior.
Infrastructure handling and retention are governed by Vercel's privacy policy and the service configuration in effect at the time of a request.
Cookies and browser storage
Earthsong sets no cookies and writes nothing to local storage or session storage. It does not need a cookie banner because it does not use those technologies. An external site linked from Earthsong may make different choices.
Seasonal-letter subscriptions
The current site offers a public letter archive and does not transmit email addresses. If a subscription service is enabled later, Earthsong will identify the provider and update this policy before collection begins. The form will explain where an address goes before a reader submits it.
Calendar downloads
Downloading or subscribing to the Earthsong calendar requests a public .ics file from the host. Earthsong does not receive the contents of your calendar, learn whether you imported the file, or place events anywhere without your calendar application's action.
External links
Letters cite scientific, historical, governmental, and cultural sources. Following one of those links sends a normal request to that organization. Earthsong does not control the destination's accessibility, cookies, or privacy practices.
Choices and rights
Because Earthsong does not maintain visitor accounts or a subscriber database, it will usually have no personal record to retrieve, correct, export, or delete. You may still ask what information Earthsong or its operator holds about you, request a copy, correct it, object to its use, or ask for deletion. These choices are offered wherever you live, in addition to rights guaranteed by applicable law.
Use the Pedagogue Systems question form to make a privacy request. Information entered there is handled under Pedagogue's privacy policy, not this one. We will respond within thirty days.
Children
Earthsong is a general-audience reading site and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through one of the linked services, contact us so the appropriate service can be identified and the request addressed.
Changes
Meaningful changes will be dated on this page and will not be applied retroactively. If Earthsong begins collecting information directly, the policy will be updated before that collection starts.
